I apologize if I haven't been very reachable lately; it seems that the winter flu wasn't ready to give up its hold on Seireitei, and it claimed me as its latest victim. It was not very pleasant at all, and I can't even see my desk now. If anyone has any suggestions for dealing with an especially looming backlog of paperwork, I would appreciate them.

[Filtered to personal friends & allies]

I've finished overproducing mucus, but now I have the opposite problem and I can't breathe through my nose. I'm losing all dignity just by asking, but if anyone knows of effective remedies, they would be even more welcome than the paperwork advice.

[Sage brotherly advice, private to Rukia]

Was the family physician not able to assist you? A doctor who cannot even remedy a stuffy nose does not deserve to be in our employ
...
I find that spicy foods clear many ailments of the sinuses.

In regards to the paperwork, Rukia, I recommend delegating it out to those whom you deem capable. If it is not work that can be delegated, then it is important that you are of a clear mind before completing it. An inattention to detail and mistakes made in the paperwork due to you being ill will cause long-term problems.

[In the evening Rukia will have a spicy meal delivered to her from the Kuchiki family chef.]

Ah...yes, niisama, she did her best, but some illnesses must be suffered through. But she did ease some of the symptoms.

[And she would totally be bowing now if this were in person]

Thank you for your advice. I will do my best to follow it, as you have much more experience in these matters, but so much of it isn't suitable for our third seat...I will try to keep a clear mind.

Try taking tiger balm around with you and rubbing it under your nose. Works for me.

I tried that, and all I got was a funny moustache. It was very amusing to Ichigo, but not to me.

I see.

Try eucalyptus oil in a bowl of water and inhaling the vapours with a towel over your head.

Now you're just trying to make me look silly.

There's nothing funny about mucus, Kuchiki.

Kick your uglier half out for an hour and try the vapours thing. It works.

He's already gone. You think he wanted to stay around with me like this?

And you didn't try to play his heroic tendencies to your advantage to get him waiting on you hand and foot?

He doesn't need me to encourage his heroic tendencies. He's bad enough as it is.

True. So take advantage of it.

I didn't want to infect him. And I'm mostly better now.

There is no more snot. Forgive my crudeness, but the problem isn't that things are flowing out of my nose; it's that it's so stuffed up I can't breathe through it anymore.

Vapours, tissues and lots of wasabi ought to do the trick.

I suppose I'll find out by experimentation.

You could go to the Living World and get some decongestants?

From: [identity profile] the-rotator.livejournal.com
Do they have any that would be stronger than Soul Society's? The ones here haven't worked yet.

[[Well, looks like Hitsugaya just found a home for some of these cold remedies he's pilfered from the Living World. Some, because he's fairly sure he'll find use for them before too long. It's how his luck runs. Have some... fizzy stuff and herbal teas delivered via lowly Tenth unseated officer, without a word. Sorry, no offer to help with that paperwork. He's not that caught up. Or maybe just not that nice.]]

[Don't be too grateful. It's purely self-preservation. That bug is going no further than Rukia. He might also be considering enacting a quarantine on anything that comes from the Thirteenth for the time being.]

I can bring you several different types of nasal decongestant and nasal spray. If you like, I can also instruct you in some yogic breathing exercises that some people find very beneficial.

Additionally, sometimes boiling assorted herbs and inhaling the steam can help clear your nasal passages.

I've already tried a few, Kotetsu-san, but if you think others would be better, I'd be willing to try almost anything.

What sort of breathing is that?
